Seven Wellbeing Tips for Exam Season
Whether it’s SATs, GCSEs or ALevels, exam season can be a stressful time for pupils whatever their age. With pressure mounting and deadlines looming, it’s crucial to prioritise your mental and physical wellbeing during this period to perform your best. Here, teacher, mother and Lumii.me co-founder Laura shares her seven tips to help you navigate exam season with a healthy mindset:
- Prioritise Sleep
Adequate sleep is essential for cognitive function and memory retention. Aim for 7-9 hours of sleep each night to recharge your brain and feel refreshed for the day ahead.
- Stay Active
Regular exercise is not only beneficial for your physical health but also your mental wellbeing. Take breaks from studying to go for a walk, do some yoga, or engage in any physical activity you enjoy to reduce stress and boost your mood.
- Eat Nutritious Meals
Fuel your body and brain with nutritious foods that provide sustained energy. Opt for whole grains, lean proteins, fruits, and vegetables to support concentration and mental clarity.
- Practice Mindfulness
Incorporate mindfulness techniques into your daily routine to manage stress and promote relaxation. Take a few minutes each day to meditate, practice deep breathing, or focus on the present moment to centre yourself amidst the chaos of exams.
- Set Realistic Goals
Break down your study materials into manageable chunks and set realistic goals for each study session. Celebrate your progress along the way to stay motivated and avoid feeling overwhelmed.
- Stay Connected
Don’t isolate yourself during exam season. Reach out to friends, family, or classmates for support and encouragement. Sharing your thoughts and feelings with others can help alleviate stress and provide perspective.
- Take Breaks
Remember to take regular breaks while studying to prevent burnout. Schedule short breaks every hour to rest your mind and avoid fatigue. Use this time to relax, socialise, or engage in activities you enjoy to recharge your batteries.
By prioritising your wellbeing during exam season, you’ll not only help enhance your pupil’s academic performance but also cultivate healthy habits that will benefit mental health and wellbeing.
