Laura’s Story: Why We Started This Movement
One Family’s Pain. A Global Call for Change.
In January 2022, my seven-year-old son shared something that changed our lives—a traumatic event that shook his sense of safety and sent his emotional world spiraling. From that moment, he became withdrawn, anxious, and terrified to return to school.
As a mother and a former teacher, I did everything I could. But the system we turned to for help didn’t understand. His trauma was misread. Our concerns dismissed. Despite repeated cries for support, we were left to navigate the storm alone.
And then—just eight years old—my son said he didn’t want to be alive anymore.
No parent should ever hear those words. And no child should ever feel that unseen, unheard, and unsupported.
That moment broke me. But it also lit a fire. I realised this wasn’t just about my son—it was about thousands of children, families, and educators who are battling silently, without the right tools or support.
So I started building.
💡 From Struggle to Strength: The Birth of Lumii.me
With the help of a Family Intervention Worker, a new school, and a community that truly listened, my son slowly began to heal. And in that healing, I found my purpose.
I partnered with two visionaries—Paul Massey and Mark Beedles—and together, we created Lumii.me: a wellbeing companion for every child, powered by AI, rooted in empathy, and built to listen when others can’t.
But Lumii.me isn’t just a product.
It’s a movement—a call to action for schools, families, and educators everywhere to reimagine what emotional support can look like.
