Origin story

The moment that started Lumii.

Lumii was built around a hard truth: most schools have pupils who struggle silently, and traditional pastoral systems are reactive — they deal with what reaches them, but much never does.

Co-founder Laura Tristram learned this first-hand. Her son had been described as a quiet boy who got on with things. Nobody had spotted how serious things had become. That experience gave Laura the drive to build something that could genuinely listen to children every day — not just when things became visible.

She partnered with Mark Beedles, a co-founder with twenty years building education technology businesses. Together they built Lumii.me — another layer to safeguarding and wellbeing in a school. The layer that hears what children don't say out loud, with humans always in control of the response.

What we believe

Schools should be places of care, not crisis.

Lumii exists to make emotional support proactive, not reactive. To help schools see what they couldn't see before. To give pupils a daily way to be heard, with no pressure to disclose. To give staff a private space to reflect without it being public to leadership. And to keep humans firmly at the centre of every safeguarding decision.

We believe the role of AI in school wellbeing is to surface — not to advise, not to diagnose, not to replace. People decide. Always.
