The moment that started Lumii.
Lumii was built around a hard truth: most schools have pupils who struggle silently, and traditional pastoral systems are reactive — they deal with what reaches them, but much never does.
Co-founder Laura Tristram learned this first-hand. Her son had been described as a quiet boy who got on with things. Nobody had spotted how serious things had become. That experience gave Laura the drive to build something that could genuinely listen to children every day — not just when things became visible.
She partnered with Mark Beedles, a co-founder with twenty years building education technology businesses. Together they built Lumii.me — the safeguarding and wellbeing layer in a school. The layer that hears what children don't say out loud, with trained adults always deciding what happens next.

Lumii is a confluence of purpose-built models, anchored by the Large Mental Health Model (LMHM) — trained on 40+ years of peer-reviewed mental health and safeguarding research. Around it, a translation layer that lets children speak to Lumii in any of 30+ languages, two cultural models (UAE International and Emirati, both anchored in the UAE National Education Charter and the Emirati National Identity Strategy), and accessibility models so the doorway is open to every child.
